Types of SBRT Treatment Machines
There are different types of machines that can be used to deliver SBRT treatment. Your radiation oncologist can recommend different SBRT treatment machines or approaches based on your treatment plan during your initial consultation.
What do different types of SBRT machines look like?
All SBRT machines use the same method to target tumours. However, they can slightly differ in appearance and setup. Some examples of SBRT machines you may see include:
- Linac (Linear Accelerators)
- CyberKnife (Robotic Radiosurgery System)
- MR-Linac

How do the machines work?
Each machine works by sending out a precise beam of radiation to target your specific tumour location. Different machines use different methods to deliver radiation from many angles.
Below is the interactive animation viewer for the CyberKnife, Linac, and MR-Linac machine. Toggle between the different machine tabs and use the interactive slider to watch how they move.
Summary
There are many types of SBRT machines that can be used to deliver your SBRT treatment. Some of the common types include the robotic radiosurgery system (CyberKnife), the Linac, and the MR-Linac.
All machines work based on the same method of using detailed imaging and precise positioning to target tumours.
